Logan Hancock

Community Wildfire Defense Program Manager

“I have lived in Sandy since 2018, though I am originally from North Carolina. I have always been drawn to the forest landscapes of the Pacific Northwest. I was excited to work with youth who are interested in the world around them, and it has been rewarding to teach saw skills, tree climbing, and wildfire mitigation techniques to young people making their communities safer and more fire adapted.”

Logan manages the Community Wildfire Defense Program, training youth for careers in wildland fire, forestry, and arboriculture. His crews help homeowners create defensible space around their properties, improving safety and resilience in rural communities. A former Marine and Certified Wildfire Mitigation Specialist, he also works as a lead climber and crew foreman for a local tree service.

He finds it most rewarding to watch youth transform from hesitant newcomers into confident and capable tree workers. Outside of work, Logan spends time in Oregon’s Cascades hiking, backpacking, foraging for wild foods, and searching for blacktail deer antlers, one of his favorite leisure pursuits.
